The Greatest of All Time?
While I do not endorse gambling. Both you and the house walk away as winners when you order the Deviled Eggs.
I always choose the restaurant I'm going to write about the day of. For The Old Goat, the name alone and a couple of pictures was all the research I needed. When I called to make a reservation, they let me know warmly that they don't take them. First come, first served. I was genuinely excited to hear that. I was prepared to wait however long it took.
Upon receiving my menu, I knew immediately I'd be ordering the deviled eggs. When they arrived, I knew I'd made the right call. Here's the thing about deviled eggs, you can never really go wrong. But what makes The Old Goat's version special is that the flavor changes every single week. It's a game. A delicious, low-stakes gamble where the only variable is the surprise, and the only guarantee is that you're winning. What a dish can be is sometimes just as exciting as what it already is. I'll be ordering them every time I return.
For the entrée, I had the jalapeño shrimp pasta. The aroma reached me before the plate did. Bold, warm, and deeply inviting, like a freshly baked pie cooling on a windowsill on a fall afternoon. It stopped me. When the dish was set in front of me I simply sat with it for a moment, taking in the presentation, the smell, and the anticipation of what was coming. The noodles were rich and creamy, the shrimp perfectly integrated, and the jalapeño brought just the right amount of heat to every bite without ever overpowering it. This is a must try. I don't give ratings, but I will say The Old Goat is worth visiting for this entrée alone.
Dessert was an easy decision. The goat cheese cheesecake topped with pistachios and drizzled with honey. This was the kind of dish that makes you pause mid-bite. The flavors found a perfect balance, never too sharp, never too sweet. The aftertaste lingered just long enough to keep you wanting one more bite. I finished every last bit of it, which I'll admit doesn't always happen. Not because things are ever bad, but because this was just that good. A special thank you to my server, S., for the recommendation. It was the right call.
The Old Goat is a place that earns all of your senses. Walking in, I watched the live music setting up, laughing between songs, settling into their space. It set a tone that the kitchen never let go of. I left feeling like the night delivered exactly what it was supposed to. The restaurant showed up. And so did the experience.
As always — regardless of my opinion, regardless of my experience, go try it yourself. Come to your own conclusion. Make it your own great experience, and head on down to The Old Goat.
