The First Taco To Have My Heart

The First Taco To Have My Heart

In a world full of decisions, knowing which taco joint to go to makes life just a bit easier. Ten years, one restaurant, one order.

I am excited to bring the world not only one of my favorite foods, but also a restaurant that has been very close to my heart for a long time. From the time when Taqueria Arrandas was a Chipotle-style taco and burrito joint — to now, the full-on successful restaurant that requires a server to come and seat you.
My order is always the same, and it's quite unique in that I will never make these tacos at home. Three tacos now, but back in the day I would order six every time. Cilantro, onion, and carne asada tacos. The spiciest salsa they have and a water. Perhaps there is something warm about someone bringing me a plate of tacos. Perhaps it's the way I love to eat them in two bites — and by no means are these small tacos. Fun fact — the faster I eat something, the more I enjoy it.
Over the decade of going to Taqueria Arrandas, I have shared countless meals with my brother, my mother, and my father, as well as countless friends. The servers know I don't need a menu and always take my order as soon as they arrive at my table.
I have been eating here for so long that it's hard to truly capture the flavor. So instead, I'll share my personal experience and loyalty. Hundreds of tacos I have eaten here — possibly in the thousands. Even when I've been full to my limit, I never take leftovers home because I push through and eat every last bite. It has never not been worth it.
Part of the joy here is saving room for a sweet treat. For dessert I had the fried ice cream — a beautiful plate of ice cream sitting in an edible shell large enough to share with a party. It's hard to not share smiles when you're eating something sweet. So if the tacos don't turn that frown upside down (impossible). The fried ice cream should do the trick.
Taqueria Arrandas isn't just a restaurant to me. It's a place that has held some of my best memories, my favorite people, and my most satisfying meals. Year after year, plate after plate, it has never once let me down. And if you find yourself there, do yourself a favor — order the tacos, save room for the fried ice cream, and don't be surprised if you're already planning your next visit before you've finished your last bite.
